Tile Map

Magnitude 4.5+ earthquakes from one month of the USGS earthquake feed, clustered on a vector tile map, colored by magnitude class and sized by magnitude. Unovis draws it with LeafletMap. None of the other libraries has a tile map with clustering; the official ECharts extension draws on Baidu Maps only.

No tile maps. Its geo module has a single geoShape mark that draws projected GeoJSON shapes; there is no tile layer or clustering, and its zoom control works on the x axis only.

No tile maps. The community chartjs-chart-geo plugin draws projected GeoJSON shapes and bubbles, without map tiles.

What to look for

  • Clusters that show what's inside. Unovis draws every cluster as a small donut split by magnitude class (colorMap), so you can spot the strong earthquakes before you zoom in.
  • Dark mode. Unovis switches to its styleDarkTheme basemap when the page does.
  • Tooltips. One Tooltip with triggers covers single points and clusters.
  • Legend. The legend hides and shows magnitude classes.
  • Zoom and pan. Scroll to zoom smoothly on the vector tiles and click a cluster to expand it.
  • Presets. No clustering sets clusteringDistance to 0 and draws every earthquake on its own, including the M6+ ones the clusters hide. Labels writes each point's magnitude and each cluster's strongest one under the marker (pointBottomLabel, clusterBottomLabel), and Triangles switches the point shape (pointShape) while clusters stay donuts. None of the other libraries has a tile map, so the presets only change the Unovis chart.
